Vacation Myrtle Beach, SC

Updated on August 28, 2014

A Family Destination

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a vacation destination packed with things to do for the whole family. Whether you fly-in from afar or you take a road-trip, Myrtle Beach is sure not to be disappointing. This very popular tourist destination welcomes over 14 million visitors every summer and it is obvious as to why. The sun, sand, and sea are only the beginning of what this family-friendly destination has to offer. A family would be hard-pressed to come to Myrtle Beach and take in all of the sights and experience all that there is to offer in just a few days. If you've been to Myrtle Beach before then you know what I am talking about. If you have not ever been then this hub, in multiple parts, will give you a little bit of insight as to what kind of attractions are here.

The South End

South Myrtle Beach begins with Myrtle Beach State Park. This beautiful park offers 100-year-old moss laden oak trees lining the entrance as you move toward the beach. Once inside the park you will find picnic pavilions, hiking trails, and of course the white sand beaches with miles of grassy dunes. The park has one of several fishing piers where you can drop a line for some fresh flounder (if you're lucky). You can rent fishing poles for a small fee and a bait shop is on site. Picnic pavilions and RV camping sites are also available with reservations.

Market Common

As you continue north you will find The Market Common. This is a great part of the south-end because it has several parks, soccer fields, baseball and softball fields, a skate park, bike trails, walking trails, a lake for feeding ducks, and the list goes on.

Valor park is located here and has several memorials to our veterans as well as decommissioned aircraft you can touch and gaze upon. The entire site was once an Air-Force and Army base with an extensive history connected to World War II.

Market Common is also home to many fine shoppes and restaurants such as PF Changs and Tommy Bahamas. It is easy to get to Market Common and worth the visit especially if you like to shop. You can easily spend the better part of a day here and everyone will have something to do or see that interests them.

The Strip

The strip is a length of Ocean Boulevard. Here you will find a newly constructed boardwalk that you can stroll along beach-side. It is also home to Ripley's Believe It Or Not, the haunted house, and an incredible amount of surf shoppes, t-shirt shoppes, candy and ice-cream stores, and the brand new "Sky Wheel". The Sky Wheel is an enclosed Ferris wheel that provides one incredible view of the entire area.

The beach is accessible for the entire length of the boulevard, however you must pay to park. Beach access is free, at least it still is now.

There are literally hundreds of hotels, motels, condominiums, and beach-front rental properties along this entire stretch of roadway. Finding accommodations should not be a problem with a bit of planning in advance of your trip. Most places are very competitive with their rates. If you do your homework you can find some really great deals.

Broadway At The Beach

The next stop on our journey is Broadway At The Beach, one of the most visited attractions in Myrtle Beach. Why is this place the most visited you ask? Because it has everything and anything a family could want to do. You could spend a lot of time here during the day and into the wee hours of the night.

Ripley's Aquarium is on one end of the complex and Wonder works is on the other. In between you have theaters, miniature golf, stores, restaurants, zip-lines, boat rides, helicopter rides, carnival rides, funnel-cakes, ice-cream, and again the list goes on. You could easily spend most of your time here while on vacation, rain or shine.

Broadway At The Beach is also home to some of the best night-life in the area. There are more than a dozen of night clubs with entertainment every night during summer season and year-round for that matter. If you like piano bars Broadway has them. If retro seventies club music is your thing, they have that too.
